Crocoite is an unusual lead mineral which can be beautiful and colourful. Crocoite provides a bright colour to the mineral kingdom and is well known for its distinctive orange red color. The main source of quality specimens come from the Dundas District of Tasmania, Australia. The crystals there are usually long thin prisms. Large crystals from this locality have been scarce in the past thirty years. Most specimens do not have crystals over 5 cm long. Crocoite is one of the few Chromate minerals. Beautiful specimens that show off this unique color and high luster are a prized addition to any collection.
