Ancient Tree Sap that hardened over millions of years becomes a fossil.  The Jurassic Park movie made Amber famous.  Real Amber’s hardness is usually greater and it is tougher than other imitation resins.  Its low specific gravity (amber can float on salt water) and inclusions can distinguish it from plastics and glasses.  Other tests include hot pin for smell and UVA Longwave Fluorescent Luminescence.
