Labradorite is a fascinating mineral that can produce a colourful play of light across cleavage planes called labradorescence. The usually intense colors range from the typical blues and violets through greens, yellows and oranges. Some rare specimens display all these colors simultaneously.  Labradorite is a member of the plagioclase family of minerals. It is named for its original location of Ford Harbour, Paul Island, near Nain, off the east coast of Labrador, Newfoundland.
