MANGANO CALCITE CRYSTAL SPECIMEN
Beautiful fluorescent Mangano Calcite Crystal Specimen. Also known as Manganoan Calcite. An aesthetic formation of crystals. The cluster has no matrix and is a good light pink colour. My photos do it justice. This specimen is also fluorescent under long wave UV light. A great sized piece of quality Calcite for the mineral or crystal collector. Super duper price too.
13.7cm x 3.5cm x 14cm, 677g.
A calcite rich in manganese. Calcite, which gets its name from chalix the Greek word for lime. It is just the right amount of manganese and sometimes Lead which helps calcite fluoresce Pink.
Calcite is so abundant and widely distributed it is no wonder that it can be so varied. The crystals of calcite can form literally a thousand different shapes. Positive rhombohedron, negative rhombohedron, steeply, inclined rhombohedrons, various scalahedrons, prism and pinacoid are a few common forms. There are more than 300 crystal forms identified in calcite. Calcite also produces many twin varieties, they are favorites among twin collectors. There are also phantoms, included crystals, color varieties, pseudomorphs and unique associations. There simply is no end to the varieties of calcite. Red and pink fluorescent Calcites fluoresce from lead and manganese.
