Smithsonite, named for James Smithson, founder of the Smithsonian Institution.  Smithsonite in addition to wonderful luster also has a varied color assortment.  There also exists attractive Apple green to blue green, (purple to lavender colour is most sought after), yellow, white, tan, brown, blue, orange, peach, colourless, pink and red Smithsonite specimens and all of them are a credit to this mineral.  Smithsonite is found as a secondary mineral in zinc ore deposits.
