Chalcedony is a variety of Quartz. A general term for all varieties of quartz that are made of microcrystalline varieties of quartz. Examples are the different types of agate, jasper, chert, chrysoprase, onyx, pietersite, etc.
Mentioned by Agricola (1546) of a stone named for the town of Chalcedon, and is a district within the city of Istanbul, Turkey.
MANGANESE
MnManganese is named from a corruption of the latin word for magnestism; magnes, in allusion to its prinicple ore’s magnetic properties. Manganese crystals have yet to be found in nature, therefore it is technically not a mineral. Laboratory grown specimens can look like a natural stone.
The element manganese is an essential element in people’s daily food consumption and has several industrial uses. Manganese is used in steel alloys to increase many favorable characteristics such as strength, hardness and durability. In fact steel can not be produced without manganese; it is an essential ingredient in the process. Manganese is also used to colour glass an amethyst colour. That is not so surprising since manganese is the trace element responsible for quartz’s purple variety, amethyst.
Manganese colouring ability in minerals is well known and appreciated. Manganese is chiefly responsible for the wonderful colours in rhodochrosite, purpurite, rhodonite, serandite and spessartine to name a few. Unfortunately most manganese oxide minerals tend to be black. Manganese is extracted from the ore minerals of pyrolusite and rhodochrosite. Manganese nodules on the sea floor may one day provide an economic ore source.

FOSSIL SPERM WHALE TOOTH
This Large Fossil Sperm Whale Tooth will make a great addition to your Fossil collection. A Sperm Whale Tooth from the Gulf of Mexico where many fossils come from especially teeth. Named Odontocete, toothed whale from the Miocene Period. This whale would have shared the same waters and time period as many of the dangerous sharks found off the East Coast of North America during the Miocene, like the infamous Megalodon Shark. Odontocete teeth were bigger than the Tyrannosaurus Rex Dinosaur teeth and would have eaten other Whales and Sharks. They grew to 18 meters long and weighed 40 tonnes.

A fantastic sparkly Large Aussie Amethyst Crystal Cluster. I have taken the photos for this under Summer cloudy sky to show the crystal form and colour. This cluster is purple quartz with top quality crystals. Beautiful points make this cluster really sparkle and are a mark of its quality. This is a really nice piece of Aussie Amethyst, not too big for posting but with a large presence. We do have a Fossil Whale Inner Ear Bone 02 for sale, some pics of this specimen on this page. They seem to have been of denser bone than the rest of the whale skeleton, so they were better preserved. The auditory bulla is a bony cover for the delicate middle ear bones and tissues. In humans it is part of our temporal bone. Whales have several adaptations in their ears for hearing underwater. Tympanic bone.

MUSCOVITE MICA AUSSIE 2
Muscovite Mica Aussie Specimen. Featuring many slim sheets of Mica together. This lovely silvery Mineral possesses special properties like electrical, thermal and electromagnetic insulation and shielding. We have personally measured these properties with a Trifield meter for shielding and Mica is one of the best natural radiation shields. It has been used scientifically for these purposes for well over a hundred years. Mica can be flaky and comes apart in thin sheets much like flexible plastic.
