4.9cm x 7.3cm x 6.2cm, 215g.Pyrrhotite: Fe7S8, Also given as Fe1-x (x = 0 to 0.17).
Named in 1847 by Ours Pierre Armand Petit Dufrenoy from Greek “pyrrhos”, flame-coloured. Pyrrhotite has some unusual characteristics. First, it has an unusual formula. The amount of sulfur does vary by roughly 20% or 50 to 55 atoms of sulfur per 50 atoms of iron. Or is it the iron that varies? Really the same difference. Thus the unusual formula of Fe1-xS. Secondly, it has two symmetries.

QUARTZ SPHALERITE CLUSTER
QUARTZ SPHALERITE CLUSTER
A rustic Quartz Sphalerite Cluster for the collection. This specimen has a few dings but is an interesting specimen with its Sphalerite, Galena and Chalcopyrite inclusions. Many small Sphalerite crystals are ‘sprinkled’ among the quartz crystals, some on or inside the quartz. The Galena appears with the Sphalerite in a couple of different forms. One photo shows how what may initially appear as a Galena crystal is actually translucent green Sphalerite. This is Cleiophane and note the crystal has been backlit to show the colour. A great piece!

SPHALERITE QUARTZ CRYSTALS
A very cool Sphalerite Quartz Crystals Cluster. This cluster looks a little bit rustic from a distance, the closer you get the better it looks! A mainly quartz matrix with many tiny to small perfect Quartz crystals. Many of the quartz crystals have tiny Sphalerite crystals on and inside them. That alone makes this piece spectacular. Add the larger Sphalerite bordering on Cleiophane rose like formations and I should be keeping this one! Put a smile on your dial with this great piece. Your collection will thank you for it.

GALENA SPHALERITE SPECIMEN
GALENA SPHALERITE SPECIMEN
Check out this amazing Galena Sphalerite specimen. Definitely one for the hard core metallers! A solid matrix of cubic Galena with beautifully terminated Sphalerite throughout. This is my idea of a mineral specimen. These two minerals have been main players throughout history, Galena for its Lead and Sphalerite for Zinc. Both have all sorts of interesting associations, especially from this locale. Zinc is often associated with fluorescent minerals too. Amazing stuff. This specimen will delight some lucky collector and be an interesting piece for any collection. RocknCrystals have a supreme selection of metal specimens to choose from, so you’ve come to the right place.
