RHODONITE GALENA CRYSTALS

A piece of Galena showing off chunky Rhodonite Galena Crystals throughout.  A classic Aussie mineral & location, great as a specimen for display.  Lovely colours and other interesting specks (under 10X mag) of associated minerals, what looks like Pyrite.
Chemistry Galena: PbS, Lead Sulfide.  Uses: Major ore of lead and silver.

Rhodonite: MnSiO3.
Named in 1819 by Christoph Friedrich Jasche from the Greek “rhodon” meaning “rose”, referring to its colour.
Galena: PbS.
Galena is the primary ore mineral of lead. Worked for its lead content as early as 3000 BC.  Named by Pliny the Elder in 77-79 from the Greek “galene” meaning lead ore.
